Bleeding from esophageal varices in children

Abstract

Esophageal varices in children are a serious complication of the portal hypertension –the result of the abnormalities of the portal vein flow.Bleeding from an esophageal varix is always an emergency and demands intensive therapy.We present both,pharmacological and endoscopic treatment based on the authors ’own experience in therapy of the esophageal variceal hemorrhage.The standards of proceeding in variceal bleeding in children covering pharmacology,intensive care as well as endoscopic methods are proposed.
